Mundial de Fórmula 1: Reviravoltas na última corrida
Fernando Alonso foi para Abu Dhabi com oito pontos de vantagem para Mark Webber, mas depois do que se viu em 2007 e 2008 poucos acreditam que o Mundial está mesmo resolvido. Há muitos exemplos que corroboram os que são de opinião que mais vale esperar para ver, pois muita coisa pode ainda suceder.
Os adeptos mais novos da Fórmula 1 serão capazes de recordar 2007 quando Kimi Raikkonen ’emergiu’ da luta Fernando Alonso/Lewis Hamilton. O finlandês estava a sete pontos de Hamilton, que por sua vez tinha uma magra vantagem sobre Alonso, mas quem venceu foi Raikkonen porque os dois homens da frente meteram os pés pelas mãos.

Mas antes disso, há outros bons exemplos de casos em que o piloto que ruma à última prova com uma boa vantagem sai de lá de mãos a abanar. Em 1999, Mikka Hakkinen transformou um atraso de quatro pontos para Eddie Irvine, em dois de vantagem.

Em 1997, a inesquecível corrida de Jerez onde Jacques Villeneuve bateu Michael Schumacher, no célebre encontro imediato e foi Campeão. No GP da Austrália de 1986, o pneu do Williams de Nigel Mansell explode aparatosamente em plena reta, fazendo com que a equipa mande Nelson Piquet às boxes por precaução, o que deixou o caminho aberto a Alain Prost para ser Campeão.

Na África do Sul em 1983, Nelson Piquet beneficia dos abandonos de Alain Prost e René Arnoux para ser Campeão. E há bastantes mais exemplos, como é o caso dos Grandes Prémios dos EUA em Las Vegas, 1981, Japão, 1976, México 1964, ou mesmo no primeiro ano da F1, no GP de Itália 1950.
